Track to Success: Job Skills Training & Placement

MRCI WorkSource has developed a new program called Track to Success, a course that offers a customer service focused curriculum and community employment experience. The eight week course, which will be offered four times a year beginning in January 2012, is currently accepting referrals from Minnesota Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Minnesota State Services for the Blind.

As part of their customer service training, participants in the program will receive instruction on communication skills, interpersonal skills, situational judgment, problem solving and all aspects of building and maintaining a solid customer service relationship. Students will learn that these “soft skills” are important in developing the independence and necessary confidence that will enable them to compete and succeed in today’s job market.

By the end of the course, participants will have a completed professional portfolio, which includes a resume and Certificate of Course Completion. The Certificate of Completion will acknowledge that participants have developed competencies in the areas of effective communication, in working cooperatively with others, and in applying customer service skills. They will have enhanced their abilities to evaluate strategies to become more effective at what they do.

Participants will receive a stipend for the training hours worked at the community work sites.

The program training staff will oversee the curriculum and will monitor the participant’s progress. Upon successful completion of the curriculum and onsite training component, participants have the option of chosing the next step in their program. A planning conference will be held to assess the participant’s progress and determine strategies for job search, placement, and gainful employment.
