Shelli Poss came to MRCI as a participant in the Fast-Trac Program, a course developed by MRCI to teach retail service skills. Funded by a grant from Minnesota Vocational Rehabilitation Services, MRCI works with the Mankato Adult Basic Education Program, to provide skill-based training and work experiences to dozens of individuals each year.
Shelli began working at Land to Air Express in Mankato through the program, and was hired by the transportation company immediately after graduating from the course.
Shelli answers telephones and schedules riders for Land
to Air Express, a business that transports people from Mankato and St. Peter to the Twin Cities airport. Shelli
is blind and uses specialized computer programs and hardware to keep track of the many customers that
contact her each workday.
“Shelli is fantastic,” said Jason Mekalson, general
manager of Land to Air Express. “She has the
ability to stay calm under pressure, and she’s
really been a breath of fresh air to this place.
She’s also great at keeping track of the weather
for us. It’s been great having Shelli here.”
